View to Vikos gorge from Oxia viewpoint

OXIA VIEWPOINT

The view from certain points along the gorge is breathtaking.
In “These Oxia” (Θέση Οξυά) there is a natural viewing platform over the deepest part of the gorge at Oxia. It is located about 3 km from the village of Monodendri in central Zagori.

About Vikos Gorge
The Vikos gorge crosses the western and central Zagori, starting north of the village of Vikos and ending southeast villages Cocoon and Gardens. Identified traces of human activity from 40,000 BC. The canyon is waterborne and stretches for 12 km and has been recorded in the Guinness Book as the gorge with the smallest opening worldwide, and with a depth of over 1,000 meters is the deepest canyon in the world. The width varies from 100 to 1,000 meters. The tributary Aoou, Voidomatis, which runs through the gorge has water only seasonally.
The canyon was created by intense geological upheaval. The flora found in the region of the canyon is particularly wide variety. (source WikiPedia)
