Kafeneio Mesochori at the square

“Kafeneio Mesochori” or “Vaggelio”
as we call it around here, is a very cute cafe – tavern at the square (“πλατεία” in Greek) in Kato Pedina village that has established itself through the years as the local hangout in Central Zagori.

Rain or shine, Vaggelio and Panos are there to welcome and treat you to local dishes and delicacies prepared with fresh material gathered by them from the forests and plains around depending on the season of the year.

Dishes with wild asparagus, porcini, chanterelles, agaricus and other wild mushrooms during spring and autumn, cheeses from small scale local producers, tea from wild herbs picked from the mountains around and many other locally harvested and produced goods from the region of Zagori.

Worth mentioning are the various activities and happenings that take place there throughout the year such as the making of tsipouro (distillation of grapes) during fall, the carnival party in winter, Zagoriwood (the movie making  lab during the summer months), the movie festival (summer outdoor cinema in the square of the village right outside the cafe).
